Make a Ceramic Mug

Join Remy Studio at KavaClub for a relaxing and instructive evening of pottery making + Kava! In this workshop, you will learn the foundational techniques of slab building to create your own unique mug and enjoy Kava or a mocktail while you make!

What to Expect:

  • Hands-on Learning: I will guide you through the process of cutting from a template and assembling your mug using the slab method
  • Personalized Design: A variety of tools and materials will be provided, including cookie cutters and underglazes, allowing you to personalize your mug with unique details and patterns.
  • Calming Kava: Ground yourself with a complimentary 8oz serving of Kava, a root drink indigenous to the South Pacific Islands known for its anxiety-reducing qualities making it perfect for socializing and creativity. You may instead choose a mocktail.

The Firing Process:

Once your mug is complete, it will undergo a two-step firing process to ensure durability and functionality.

  1. Bisque Firing: The mug will be dried and then fired in a kiln to solidify the clay.
  2. Glaze Firing: After the initial firing, the mug will be glazed and fired again to create a watertight and food-safe finish.

Important Notes:

While I will take every care to ensure the successful completion of your pieces, please be aware that working with clay involves inherent risks. I will provide guidance and support throughout the process to minimize potential issues.

Completion and Pick-Up:

Finished mugs will be ready for collection from my house in Carytown 3-4 weeks after the workshop. You will receive email reminders with details regarding pick-up and address.

Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today and embark on your pottery-making journey!

Quiet Observation

Expanding upon the small moments of transition throughout the day creates ease in your life. Using ordinary objects ritually helps to drop into the flow and cultivation of our days, expanding out into a life. With this approach we can turn a warm drink into an invitation to relax the mind, a candle into a measurement of time, breath into a reminder of the body.
